Julien Mari, better known as Jul (/dʒuːl/, stylized as JuL or JUṬ), is a French rapper, singer, and producer born on January 14, 1990, in the 12th arrondissement of Marseille, France. With Corsican heritage, he grew up in Saint-Jean du Désert, in the 5th arrondissement of the city.
Jul started his career in 2013 with the release of his debut single, “Sors le cross volé,” followed by his first album Dans ma paranoïa in February 2014 under the independent label Liga One Industry. This marked the beginning of a prolific career where he consistently released at least two albums per year, all achieving platinum certification or higher. His early works, including Lacrizeomic and Je trouve pas le sommeil, all charted on the French SNEP official albums chart.

In 2015, Jul left Liga One Industry due to disagreements and launched his own label, “D’Or et de Platine,” under which he continued to release music independently. His 2017 album My World won “Urban Music Album of the Year” at the 32nd Victoires de la Musique.
By February 2020, Jul became the best-selling artist in the history of French rap, achieving more than 4 million albums sold within just six years of his career. As of April 2022, this number increased to 5.5 million albums sold.
In January 2023, Jul’s record label, D’Or et de Platine, partnered with his childhood football club, Olympique de Marseille, as its sleeve sponsor. On May 8, 2024, Jul had the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron in Marseille, marking the arrival of the Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Games.
